ASR has been pretty fun so far. As usual, there's a little bit of skating, a little bit of bid'niss, a lot of sauce, and a ton of Barbie Cali girls walking around. Since one of the most exciting events of the year was moved to an uneventful side show at that one billionare contest at the carnival, there is no Pro/Am Game of SKATE at ASR this year. Lame. However, SPoTlight will be running the Automatic Magazine's Battle of the Shops this weekend at ASR on September 6. It will be ripping skating of a different kind on four different types of obstacles with shop teams that send their best guys in. It's full for registration, but you're welcome to come watch or you can check out the coverage here after I sober up.

The News Watcher Page has been cleaned up a little with a new site added. They're called Bordistan and they post skateboard banter on the regular. I like them because they throw in plenty of skate bid'niss news, too.
They called out Slap's claim of most popular skateboard website. If this was a skateboard website instead of a random photos of nothing site, maybe we could make the popularity claim. This weekend at ASR in San Diego, maybe I'll shoot a skate photo or two, or none. See you there. Knuckle pound. Bro hug. High five. Peace sign. Head nod. Shakka bra.

At Surf Expo on September 12, Volcom is having a $10,000 Am Mini-Ramp Jam. The Contest is for sponsored ams only, but some people get in through video footage. If you've done a stink bug or a blunt nose grab in the last five years, send your footage to Termite. Otherwise, if you rip and want a spot, send me the link to your footage and I'll see if you can get in. I wonder what kind of gear we will be sporting this time.

I have been in service of online customers and up to my ears in boxes since early last week. I had to fly home from NYC early to cover for our main online guy who quit with no notice during our Back to School Sale. That was one of the busiest weekends we've ever had come out of our ASS (Asian Sweat Shop - online order packing). Feels awesome having to send people notes like this. Things are just about caught up and I will soon return to regular updates with feet photos and chill shots of things that generally have nothing to do with skateboarding.

There are currently thousands of things on sale right now, so I wrote a report that will hopefully help you quickly find the most discounted stuff. It lists the top products in each of the most popular categories that have the biggest discounts like these Krew watches that are over $100 off or these Abington shoes or this SB Military jacket that are over $50 off. This weekend Bristol, Porpe, Frosty, Schaefer, Clements, Barak, and I are going to New York City. Some of us are simply on the lurk and some of us are going for sketchy skateboard industry bid'niss affairs. We are all going early so we can check out Back to the Banks on Saturday at the Brooklyn Banks. Watch for full coverage of that here. The next day is that one contest that fired SPoTlight Productions that ran it last year. I guess we might be at that if they let us in.

The Finals got rained out for the First Annual Canadian Damn Am so we had to go with the Qualifier Results as the Final Results. Top 12 get a spot in Tampa Am 2008 in December. For tomorrow's Canadian Damn Am Street Qualifiers, there are 11 jams. You get one intro run followed by an 8 minute jam with four skaters. Your run is 25% of your score and the jam is 75% of your score. There are five judges. The high and low scores are dropped and the remaining three are averaged to get your final score. Here are the Jam Heat Sheets. Someone please do an anti-rain dance for tomorrow, eh. Thanks.

Schaefer and I had another sketchy encounter at the Canadian border yesterday when we arrived in Vancouver, but this time they actually let us in as opposed to the last time where they handed us an $800 tax bill and told us to go back home. This weekend in Tampa is the Altamont Demo on Friday (Andrew Reynolds is going to be here!!!) followed by the Steaz Bowl Jam and of course the Back to School Bash Contest on Saturday. Don't forget, you can only register online. There's also an After-Party in Ybor. DJ Colonic will put a tube up your butt. Unfortunately, I am missing all of that. Also this weekend is the Canadian Damn Am right outside of Vancouver in a town called Burnaby. If you can't make it or you get denied at the border after being detained for nine hours like the last time I tried to go to Vancouver, you can watch the whole thing on a live webcast at Skateboard.com.
