Stalker Steve is a regular in the streets. Check out a new batch of photos from around Tampa: Street Stalker: Level Ollies and Big Spin Nollies.
No One Cares, Imagine That

The amount of people signed up for the Vert is Dead Contest is the same as the grand total from that Gravis sales contest we had a while back. Just to be clear: It's not a vert contest! Here are some photos of what we're doing: Funeral Arrangements: Vert is Dead. Word on the street is either The Nuge or Christian Hosoi is showing up, but definitely not both.
Party in My Neighborhood Friday Night
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 29, 9:54 AM
I was going to dress up as Mike Goodwine for his Friday night party and art show, but I had trouble rounding up 10 kids and four hot, white women to roll with. So, I'm not sure what I'm doing about a costume, but I'll definitely see you there on Friday night. Come check out some of Goodwine's work at Karma Bar and Cafe downtown and maybe after that we'll go skate turtle ditch in costumes. If you need some Halloween inspiration, check out Pat Stiener's site that doesn't have us in his link list, but it's cool, no big deal, so what, I didn't even notice, who cares anyway, whatevvvvvvsss, bro.
Trendspin
Posted by Rob on Wed, Oct 28, 2:10 PM
I was just correcting some typos in the trick lists I typed out on the Damn Am Finals Results and realized that in the short list of 12 skaters in the Finals, the word "bigspin" appears 23 times, just a few instances short of the word "kickflip" including all variations. Is the bigspin blown out? I hope not, it's one of the last legit street moves I got. At least Rob Maatman is keeping them looking good.

Costumes Make Everything More Fun
Posted by Rob on Wed, Oct 28, 8:59 AM
Looks like I missed another good time at home last weekend where Stalker Steve shot some photos: Lakeland Costume Mini Ramp Jam. Don't forget that this weekend, a costume is REQUIRED to enter the Vert is Dead Contest.
Had Enough Damn Am Yet?
Posted by Rob on Tue, Oct 27, 3:45 PM
I went nuts on shooting tons of skate photos and sequences this weekend so it's taken me quite a while to get these all together, even after cutting a bunch of them out. Here are Damn Am Skate Photos. There are plenty of lurk/chill photos coming up later. After that, I'm home for a long time now and things will start to focus on good old Tampa.
What Went Down at Damn Am

Clem has the full story from Damn Am where I also added all the footage from the weekend. Photos coming up later.
A Couple Minutes at the Bar After Work
Posted by Rob on Mon, Oct 26, 4:15 PM
I was stuck working during the DNA OJ Damn Am Best Trick yesterday, but I just checked the footage at Shred or Die. I remember seeing Aaron Collier try backside big spin back lip, but in the footage it looks like big flip back lip. Wow, never seen that one before. I'm working on photos and Clem's story right now. In the meantime, check out some party cam footage with a chat with Theotis Beasely about who he made out with, Nick Merlino's love of shots, and other random drunk antics late night at Damn Am.
Damn Am Costa Mesa: It's a Wrap

The Semi-Finals are in random order and don't include the two Golden Ticket first place qualifiers from Friday and Saturday, both of which happen to have had ripping parts in the Flip video.

Check some early Saturday Damn Am footage from Colin Clark including Kyle Walker, Alex Longcamp, Who Jap?, Shawn Hale, Who Dat?, Jared Huss, Ryan Thompson, Bryant Chapo, Jake Hill, longboarder Jeremy Peckham, and finishing up with Luan Olivera's amazing runs looking like he's not even trying. Second heat just wrapped up and we're on to the last three. You can watch this all go down live tomorrow at Volcom.com.
He's Not THAT Crazy
Posted by Rob on Sat, Oct 24, 10:30 AM
I had dinner with Foundation Team Manager, Mike Sinclair, who brought along Nick Merlino, which made for a fairly entertaining time. I used the chill cam to film some of Nick's banter ranging from fear of flying, to his least favorite skater in the Contest, to his smooth ways with the females.
If the Bennihanna Was a Flip Trick
Posted by Rob on Sat, Oct 24, 9:44 AM
Some dude yesterday started his run with dolphin flip boardslide on the rail, then proceeded to attempt to double dolphin flip the double set, then did a triple dolphin flip over the hip rolling away like a human pretzel. Wow, there are some characters as usual at this year's Damn Am at Volcom. Colin Clark has some highlights from Friday's Street Qualifiers at Damn Am Costa Mesa. Check out Dustin Blauvelt, Tyler Elsey (unsponsored, got in with video footage), Kechaud Johnson, Caesar Rosado (recently had a Mag Minute, Thrasher Sponsor Me feature), a couple Who Dat?'s, Matt Lonergan, John Fitzgerald, Nolan Helmstetter, Louie Lopez, Donovan Piscopo, Raymond Macken, and Nick Tucker.

Is It Just Always That Time of Month For Those Dudes?
Posted by Rob on Wed, Oct 21, 5:19 PM
We're serious when we say a costume is required to enter for the Vert is Dead Contest on Halloween. I was starting to put mine together so I searched for "leopard print pads" on eBay and holy hell look what came up: Leopard Print Cloth Menstrual Pad. Yikes. I was not able to find any knee pads, though. Oh well. See you here in costume on the 31st.
Stay Skate Nerdy

At the end of each day where there's skate news, our Skate News Email List will deliver a nice summary of who has the latest footage, photos, news, interviews, and more online from the most popular sites on the web. It's the easiest way to keep up with all your favorite skaters. Well, actually they're MY favorite skaters since if someone totally sucks or is spotted blunt nosegrabbing (ahem, Gareth Stehr), I'm not going to be posting news about them. For the most part, you get all major news. Anyway, below is a sample email you would have gotten yesterday. Subscribe here and don't forget that you have to click on the confirmation email that I send you to verify that you want to be on the list. You can also get new shoes delivered by email and all new products by email. Google runs it for us and there's never any spam and taking yourself off the list is as easy as one click.
Is Anyone NOT Good at Skateboarding These Days?
Posted by Rob on Wed, Oct 21, 9:09 AM
I get all kinds of footage from all walks of life trying to get into Damn Am and Tampa Am. Here's one of the better ones: Who Dat? Video Footage to Get Into Tampa Am. This is Nate Greenwood and he's flow for Vans. Backside tailslide backside flip out on an eight stair rail? Yikes. This is just under a minute of his footage. The rest is pretty amazing, but had to be cut out because his filmer is keeping it for the vault. Hopefully we see it out there someday. Anyway, check the footage that was able to be released: This weekend, it's the West Coast Tampa Am, Damn Am Costa Mesa at the Volcom facility. Based on this year's list, it looks like we will be seeing a few new Who Dat? rippers. There's a live webcast at Volcom.com this weekend.
One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure

Clem went on another one of those two wheeled adventures, this time across the state of Florida. Thanks for including plenty of photos of crusty ass women: White Trash Weekend.
No W!
Posted by Rob on Mon, Oct 19, 5:09 PM
We just got a very popular shoe back in stock, the Stefan Janoski. It's amazing how many people think there's a "W" in Stefan's last name. I've been telling Schaefer and Clem on the mic for years to watch out for that mistake. Back here in Innetech, "Janowski" was just getting thrown around by everyone. Janoski, Janoski, Janoski, no W. Got it? There are also plenty of other new ones on the New Shoes Page.
Skateboard Nerdery
Posted by Rob on Mon, Oct 19, 2:00 PM
Back in 2005, I created this over the top skateboard nerdy database where I could enter everything going on in my favorite magazines while I read them. I logged photographers, the companies, the skaters, the tricks they were doing, and the spots they were doing them at. Lately, Stalker Steve has been helping me keep up with it. Using this mountain of information generated, I decided to make a list of all skaters that were in the mags in 2006 that have not re-appeared since. Out of these 268 skaters that somehow disappeared from the skateboard industry, there are quite a few interesting ones. Some had careers blown away by partying like Graham Bickerstaff and LJ, some were just kinda gross, some turned contest-pro using the Dew Tour like Jason Barr, and some, like Gino Iannucci, choose to remain low key. Get the full list here along with the most clicked on skater profiles in the last 90 days: Skateboarding's Popularity Contest Results. It's amazing that Rodney Mullen is still the most viewed skater profile by far. There are lots of other surprises in that list, too.

Wet Stalker
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 15, 6:47 PM
The other day I got a text and a photo from Stalker Steve: "Just to give you a laugh on the flight home, see you tomorrow." This was the picture: Stalker Steve is one of the most upbeat and positive people I know and it's nice to have him around. For Halloween we need to dip him in a tub of blue paint so he can be Wet Willy. Let's do this, Steve. I'll get the red paint and be Devil Man. Anyway, SS has a new batch of photos for you from Pat Stiener's birthday and some random Tampa spots: Street Stalk and Party Time.
Old Dirty Willy
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 15, 5:52 PM
I was just in the Bowl Warehouse and I heard this exchange take place:

Wet Willy: "In yo face like a can of mace, babayyy!"
Flameboy: "Is it burnin'? Well, f*&^kin' now ya learnin'!!!"
Wet Willy: "How, I don't even like ya motha f*&^in' profile!!"
Flameboy: "Gimme muh f*&^in' s*&t, chi-chi, BLOW!!!"

Not what you'd expect from those two. Maybe they're they're trying win back some old friends? Sometimes it's not always received well when people, companies, or brands try to reinvent themselves. Humans don't like change, they have sticky memories, and they're very unforgiving, especially in skateboarding. I can throw myself in that group for the most part. One thing I can say, though, is when I see a company or brand giving it a good old college try, I'm giving them a high five. Backing people like Shetler and Mike Franklin plus giving some people pretty cool jobs in skateboarding like Charlie Thomas is a good start. If you've been in the Bowl Warehouse recently, you know they're also helping out with getting it to cool down in there. We here at SPoT would just like to publicly thank them for that.

No Mountain Goats Harmed in This Video
Posted by Rob on Wed, Oct 14, 9:10 AM
Those acrobatic things Bob Burnquist did in the Flip video are pretty amazing. Funny looking and pretty ugly at times, but still, amazing. Did you see the Flip premiere here last Friday night? Stalker Steve was there and shot some skate and lurk photos: Extremely Sorry Premiere. If you missed it, we have Extremely Sorry in stock.

When Del first relased Funk Man a few months back, it was a free download from his site. Now it's a "name your own price" type of deal. Either way, I suggest picking it up and jamming out non-stop right up until Saturday, December 5, around 10pm. More on that later. Okay, maybe a little more now. Did you know Ice Cube is Del's cousin? Of course you know Nike SB recently did some work with said cousin. Nike SB as you know is fully backing Tampa Am and Pro. Hmm, hook it up, SB. Let's do this.
More Cold Complaints

If you're in Chicago this weekend, DC's King of Chicago is here. It all goes down at Clemente High School at 1pm today and tomorrow. On Sunday night, join us at Tilted Kilt for the After-Party. Someone start a fire. It's like 80 below here.
Frontside Peg Magazine
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 08, 7:31 PM
We have always referred to them two wheeler's as our "BMX buddies." Our Buddy in Chief, Matt Coplon, has started an annual BMX Contest here at SPoT. The first one went down last weekend: Skatepark of Tampa BMX Jam. I don't know anything about BMX, but looking through the photos, I was trying to guess what might be the frontside grind of BMX. I suspect it might be this right here:
We also added new buddies to our BMX team. Matt Coplon assures me that none of them do BMX blunt nosegrabs.
Tampa Am: Thursday, Dec 3, 2009 - Sunday, Dec 6, 2009
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 08, 7:26 PM
Tampa Am 2009 tickets are on sale now. You would already know that if you were subscribed to the new products mailing list. Schaefer is currently on the street course contemplating this year's changes. If you see him, stop and give him an earful of your ideas.
Support Your National Website
Posted by Rob on Thu, Oct 08, 7:23 PM
Just a heads up, I'm about to change up the layout of the site. The front page is going to look more like a store. We won't have one wheeled milk manuals and roid rage Affliction animation banners, but I do feel we need to look more like a shop. Things have been pretty slow online and I sure want to keep doing this for a living, so some small changes are in order. It's not going to be obnoxious, and we will have the same old articles, dumb photos of feet and frontside grinds, and the same old random banter of course. Blunt nosegrabs are still not allowed. Not sure of the exact date, but I'm neck deep in nerdy computer code working on it now. The site will still be pretty much free of outside ads as it has always been, however. More on that later. Thanks for visting the site all these years.

Frontside Grind Magazine Reporting for Duty
Posted by Rob on Tue, Oct 06, 8:41 PM
A long time ago, I picked up this magazine called Juice. The only thing I remember is thinking, "They should call this Frontside Grind Magazine." I guess it's geared towards the leopard print pads and nine inch board crowd. As I tend to take a small joke and beat it into the ground re-using it over several years, here I continue by shooting several photos for the cover of Frontside Grind Magazine in the Bowl at SPoT earlier tonight: An Epic Session For the Cover of Frontside Grind Magazine.
A Day in the Twins' Life
Posted by Rob on Tue, Oct 06, 2:32 PM
Why doesn't Abdias Rivera have anyone to say hi to back in Tampa? Maybe because he's got a new life in that one state where you can have a six figure income and be broke as hell. See how Abdias makes it in this Transworld Day in the Life feature about Abdias and Angel Ramirez. That opening tune is Coconut Records a damn good band we should get at the next Tampa Pro. Tampa Am is nearly booked but I can't spill the beans on the artist just yet. Abdias, come to Tampa and say hi to us.

The Road's Calling. Clem, It's For You...
Posted by Rob on Tue, Oct 06, 9:37 AM
It was weird booking a round trip flight for Clem from San Diego to Tampa and back to San Diego. He took the other leg of that trip from Tampa to San Diego and back to Tampa on his bike. Check out another batch of photos from the road: Motorcycle Ride from San Diego to Tampa.

Do Leopard Print Knee Pads Count as a Costume?
Posted by Rob on Mon, Oct 05, 10:16 AM
On Halloween, we are having a Vert is Dead Contest. There will be a quarter, tranny-to-wall that looks like a tombstone, hubba off the ramp, flat bar on the tranny, manny pad on the flat, etc...like a mini-street course built on the vert ramp. There will also be a costume contest and prizes for best costume. A costume is required to enter the contest and you must sign up online.
Mall Grab on da Gat
Posted by Rob on Fri, Oct 02, 5:43 PM
Most people think they're all gangster when they're in their teens, then they realize how truly ungangster they are when they hit the 20's. Judging by this photo of Pat Stiener, it looks like he's got it backwards. Go to his birthday party, or he wil cap yo ass. This flyer was on the internet, so therefore the internet is invited. I won't be in town, but it looks like a good time. Maybe Stalker Steve will grace us with party photos?
A Hard Working Friday Afternoon Watching Skate Videos
Posted by Rob on Fri, Oct 02, 5:30 PM
You know what website is killing it these days? They have super entertaining content with ripping skating and a great team. They even cater to the power user/nerdy types by having the full content of their posts in their RSS feed and a link to download the high quality version of every video they put up. That's pretty useful if you travel and do most of your skate video watching on your phone. They also have the best damn dude in PR emailing you with his computer generated emails like, "Hi [insert name here]. Just thought you'd like to see this video we made." That dude is Ashton Maxfield and he works at etnies. They just posted a 12 minute behind the scenes video from their recent Skate and Create adventure. Once you get to the site, go deeper to see some other top quality mini skate productions they're putting out. Thanks for the entertainment, etnies. Now can we please see a Don Brown freestylin' feature? Thanks.
