Feet, Phones, and Friends
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 30, 2:01 PM
It's been a while since I unloaded my chill cam on the site. Here's a bunch of random photos of feet, crusty places I hang out, and other irrelevant crap: Chill Cam Dump November 2007.
Nice Work, Deputy
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 30, 11:46 AM
I had a bizarro day yesterday. It started off with getting to skate a perfect backyard pool with no fear of arrest and ended with using my skateboard as simple transportation and having Officer Doofy shove me into the back of his car. Good times!
Leopard Print Pads and Laybacks
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 29, 4:42 PM
Tonight at 10pm on the Fox 13 News, you can see the adventure we went on this morning. We skated a perfect backyard pool thanks to our friend and Skatepark of Tampa Business Team Member, Henry Alava, notifying us that today his pool is drained and skatable. It's a double kidney built in the late 70's so you know it's proper. Photos from that are coming up later. Here's a small preview from Mike Derewenko:
What Does Buenos Tiempos Mean?
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 29, 4:37 PM
The last text I got from Schaefer was something like, "Sitting on a beach in Chile with Freddy and about to head to the strip bars. Life is good." He's on random tour of South America right now taking a vacation from our job, which many times is a vacation itself. He's also visiting our friend Freddy from Bolivia who used to live in Tampa years ago. He sent over some photos: Buenos Tiempos - Schaefer in South America. They got some beat up skate stuff there.
Holmes Bruise
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 27, 9:03 AM
We've seen look-alike bruises before. Check out Neal Hendrix's Hosoi bruise. Next one will probably be a Virgin Mary image.
Whitewater Skateboarding
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 26, 12:03 PM
Clem went up to North Carolina to get a scene report on what the Olympic Whitewater Training Park looks like when it's drained. Red Bull is considering doing a pro contest there. Check out some crazy photos of this spot: Quick Trip to North Carolina.
Another Foot Fetish Video
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 23, 2:06 PM
SPoTlight Products Head Judge and multi-decade skate nerd, Jason Rothmeyer, went to the Lakai premiere and has quite a story for you. I’m sure by now you’ve heard there’s a bunch of new tricks in the video. Fakie switch front crooks fakie 360 flip out? Wow. If I was there, all that money Dooner is holding up would have been in my hands. Jason’s got all the details: Lakai Fully Flared Video Premiere.
Priceless Investment Advice
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 21, 9:44 AM
This weekend, spend as low as 20%! Well, you’re supposed to say it the other way around so it makes you feel better about blowing your wad. Save up to 80%! Now that sounds more positive, except saving money sucks. I hate saving money. I hate the effort that it takes and the things you have to give up for it. Spend it all before you die and this weekend is a good time to start. The sale starts Friday at 12:01am and ends on Sunday at 11:59pm. Be wise with what you save - invest it in a good time with your friends and it will pay dividends for years unlike that crappy mutual fund your dad wants you to put it in.

Here are the photos from the Harvest Jam All Ages Contest. Angel took some also. I'll put those up tomorrow. It's a nice day. Get off the haternet and go skate. Look at these in class tomorrow when it's okay to waste time.

Mongo Photos Coming Soon
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 16, 1:50 PM
Here's the deal for the Harvest Jam tomorrow.

Doors open at 9am

8 and Under is first, 9 to 12 is next, and then there's the first ever Girl's Divsion. It will be two, 50 second runs, best run counts.

We will then announce results for those three divisions and do a product toss. Moms will elbow each other in the dome.

Following that will be the 13 to 15 Division which will be in jam format (six minutes) with five skaters each jam. Results and a product toss will immediately follow. Some poor kid will have six of his homies' ass cheecks in his face over a deck.

We will then run through jams for the 16 and Up and Sponsored Divisions then announce results after Sponsored and do a product toss.

You will then go home, hate on everything I put on the website, then return again for a repeat next year.

See you here.
Damn Am Gone Under
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 16, 12:48 PM
Just got out of another sketchy skateboard industry bid'niss meeting and the outcome of this one was to axe the first annual Damn Am Down Under in Australia for 2008. The first one will be in 2009 instead. We need a little more time to plan that shindig and find the right place to do it.

Girls On The Brain
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 15, 4:56 PM
This next This or That Giveaway is for a Todd Bratrud SPoT Deck. Girls on the brain too much means this one is all chick questions: Skatepark of Tampa Todd Bratrud Deck Giveaway. Top five get a board. Good luck. You have until Monday, November 26th on this one.
Numbers Geek Going Off
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 15, 3:12 PM
You can get a little bit of an insight on what kids out there are Googling and clicking on the most with these statistics reports from the bean counter: Skateboard High School Popularity Contest Results. You can see the top clicked on skater profiles, products, articles, and photos for the last 30 days. The top article clicked on is one from way back in 2005, thanks to MTV and teenie boppers. You know with all the traffic this site gets, we could bring in $40,000 per year if we put those corny Google text ads on the site everywhere. We have decided to let the $40k go and not gay-up the site with an eyesore like that. Yeah. You're welcome.
Sales Pitch Alert

Course Update, Thanks Angel
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 13, 6:56 PM
Angel might be that clone I'm looking for. He came through with an article and some photos of the near-complete street course: A Mid-November Street Course Update.

Second
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 12, 12:15 PM
After the last seven weekends in a row out of town for a skateboard shindig, I'm ready for some good old boring times in Tampa now. Check out stuff from the Clash of the Crews in Miami this past weekend.
Happy Birthday Rob Hoovis!

MIA
Posted by Rob on Sat, Nov 10, 10:22 AM
We took our time getting to Miami from Tampa yesterday and finally made it to MIA Skatepark after about 8 hours or so. Here's some photos: Dragging Ass to Miami. The Clash of the Crews is this weekend at MIA.
Course Construction Update
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 08, 8:56 AM
Check the Street Course Construction Photos Category for a ton of updates from Angel and me. You can also view them as a photo set. The course is looking good. There's also some white collar mixed in with those photos. Yesterday, we copied and pasted our offices to a new location due to Online and Shop growing a little bit. Many of the people who use mice and keyboards instead of hammers and drills now sit in the back warehouse behind Transitions, which is the new home of the ASS (Asian Sweat Shop - online order packing). Schaefer says the course should be somewhat skateable by Friday.
Getting Served and Protected
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 06, 7:37 PM
Everyone has a bad day on the board. This one was fully documented in the news.
Mike D Flicks
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 06, 4:42 PM
Mike Derewenko sent over a couple photos. Mike and I are headed to Miami this weekend for the Clash of the Crews with the rest of the SPoT crew. I'll make up for being wastoid loser last weekend by snapping plenty of photos this weekend, maybe.
Just Watch It
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 06, 2:11 PM
I heard from a few different people that the Nike video was sort of average with mediocre skating, so I wasn't expecting much when I watched it last night. Those fools did not know what they were talking about - the skating was amazing with amazing spots, no TAPS flying down 80 stair rails, and great music (Johnny Cash, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, and even Depeche Mode for BA and Gino's shared part). Omar Salazar had a real stand-out part. The skits are pretty funny and you can easily skip over them on the next times you watch the video because they're grouped into their own chapter. The extras are a lot of the flow riders from different parts of the world where even Body got a trick in there. Anyway, we have Nothing But the Truth now. If you want to wait and try your luck, a Nike DVD this or that giveaway is coming up. Here are photos from the Nike Demo last weekend taken by Angel. Lucky he shot some photos. I don't like any of mine so they're all in the trash. Thanks, Angel.

2008 Events Update
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 06, 10:04 AM
Just got out of one of them sketchy skateboard industry bid'niss meetings and in this one, some dates for 2008 have been locked down. Mark your calendars:

Volcom Damn Am Down Under (Sydney, Australia): Feb 22 - 24, 2008

Globe Contest at the Opera House (Sydney, Australia): Feb 29 - Mar 1, 2008

DVS Copenhagen Pro (Copenhagen, Denmark): Jun 20 - 22, 2008

Billabong Winnipeg Damn Am (Winnipeg, Canada): Aug 22 - 24, 2008

More details are on the way for each event, including AmsterDamn Am which hasn't been finalized yet. Nearly every weekend in 2008 involves a skateboard shindig for the SPoTlight Productions crew. We need clones.
It's a Hip!

Wow, look at the street course. Nike demo photos, more Make-A-Wish stuff, and two giveaways coming up as soon as I can get to it. I need a clone.

Houston Day One
Posted by Rob on Sat, Nov 03, 11:41 AM
We found all kinds of great spots in Houston yesterday while we had nothing to do all day except skate. Check out a few photos: Make-A-Wish 2007 Friday in Houston.
On The Houston Lurk
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 02, 6:12 PM
The SPoTlight Productions crew along with Porpe and Lehman are in Houston right now. Lehman just tore it up at Easy Seven. More photos of that later. See you at the Habitat premiere tonight if you're in Houston.
We Don't Party That Much
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 01, 3:04 PM
Here's an overdose of silly party photos from The Holloween Party at SPoT.
Tim Has Fourstar Shorts
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 01, 10:15 AM
Our friend Tim Dowling makes films. You may have seen some he's worked on. You know the Girl videos? Yeah, those. He's behind the lens on the Captain and Casey show, too. Check out Tim Dowling's website. Tim also happens to be the proud owner of a few pairs of Fourstar shorts, the best shorts ever made that are not made anymore. Yeah, Tim.
Houston, We Have a Skate Jam
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 01, 9:23 AM
The Halloweeny party last night was ridiculous. Photos coming up after I get some real work done. The last thing I need is another party (didn't I just say that?). Tomorrow the SPoTlight Productions crew is off to Houston, Texas for the Make-A-Wish Texas Skate Jam. Of course there's an after party along with the Inhabitants video premiere. See you there. Yee haw.
