some clearer photos of it. Luckily, we are all going to be in town on that day. I'm already looking forward to making fun of a cop putting me in cuffs. See you there. If you missed last year, check it out right here: Go Skateboarding Day 2006.

The same percentage picked hot girls over rich girls and blondes over redheads. Nearly 80% of you picked being a filmer over a photographer. 62% picked Schaefer over Clements and nollie vs. switch was nearly exactly even. Thanks for taking the crazy quiz. Here’s an excerpt from a sketchy skateboard industry email that crossed my path. It’s from someone at a place that does large skateboarding events trying to get the scoop and make themselves appear legit. Funny but not funny. Their questions were:
1) Are you seeing any new trend in street tricks for this year?
2) Is there anyone who is just blowing you away on street?
3) Are the girls doing anything new/different on street that we should keep an eye on?
4) Of the usual crowd of street guys, is there anyone standing out for you this year?
5) How do you think Nyjah is going to stack up this year against the field (if he receives an invite)?
Stir up the hype.

One Question Interview: Active Erica

Today's One Question Interview is with
Active Erica. The sketchy skateboard industry is made up of nearly 100% marketing to influence how you kiddies spend your allowance. Erica works in Marketing at Active. Erica, what skill do you think is most important in getting you ahead in a career in the sketchy skateboard industry?
Answer: There are many skills that would help people who aspire to get ahead of the sketchiness in the skateboarding industry. I think being able to read minds, possess telekinesis or, have a vast knowledge of martial arts would definitely help someone get to where they want to be, no doubt. Those are my three strongest skills and look at me today!

One Question Interview

Tue,
May
15,
8:57 AM
There's an FKD giveaway coming up on the site hooked up by Mark Wiehl, the marketing guy for Plan B, FKD, and Silver. Here's a One Question Interview with Mark.
Mark, how come it always seems to be the marketing people at a skateboard company that party harder than any other department? Answer: Ha... this is a funny question. We have a few straight edge guys within the company and I'm one of them, so I guess we are the exception to the rule. Besides, I like to be totally sober when I'm getting lap dances at the strip club or when I'm hanging out with a couple of "escorts" because I want to remember it. I don't mind buying drinks for them!
Luckily, Riff (our filmer) has done enough partying to make up for our lack of it.

One Question Interview
Posted by Rob on
Wed,
May
09,
9:28 AM
The One Question Interview for today is with Element Team Manager
Ryan Dewitt. Dewitt babysits some of the best skateboarders in the world.
Dewitt, who on the Element team would you first pick to sit next to on a long plane ride?
Answer:
Hmm...Let me think....
Tosh...? No way, the guy is as big as gorilla, will definitely put on a HUGE buzz, and will embarrass me in some way for sure.
Brent....? We can barely get him on a plane.
Nyjah...? I don’t really play those PSP things.
Muska...? He’ll be in first class.
Mike V...? He’ll just talk the whole time and tell stories about Tony Hawk and Bam and stuff.
Darrell...? Haven’t flown with him yet, but he’d probably be bumping some hip hop on his I pod that I would have absolutely no idea about.
Tave...? He’ll miss the flight, no doubt, and have to fly by himself.
Bam...? He doesn’t go anywhere with us.
Dallas...? He always fly's in and meets us from some weird place like Iowa or Minnesota or something.
Vanessa...? Talk about a buzz and embarrassment. Now there's two things I can count on. And although she is probably, no wait, she actually is the most annoying person I know, we always sit together. I think she’s scared to sit next to anybody else and basically makes me sit with her...So I’m pretty much stuck with her and her foul mouth.
But, without a doubt, Brent Atchley. He’ll tell you stories about Burnside like, “then Toothless Kenny got into a fight with Crumbsnatcher over a hot dog and Kenny already had a black eye from the night before...” Stuff like that. The guy is a hysterical. I don’t know how or where he comes up with the stuff he does, but I can surely listen to it for hours.

One Question Interview
Posted by Rob on
Tue,
May
08,
1:54 PM
Being on the Captain Corporate side of things, I talk to a lot of people in the sketchy skateboard industry all the time, especially when stuff like contest registration is going on. So, I'm starting this thing called One Question Interviews. Whenever I talk to someone of interest, I'll do a One Question Interview with them and post it here in the What's Up. It could either be a pro or someone on the bid'niss side like me. First one up is
Seamus Deegan. When I first met him I thought he was Tony Manfre. Seamus is the Zoo York Team Manager. Seamus, who at Zoo goes through the most boards in a month? Answer: It's a tie, both Lamare and Donny tear through boards not necessarily breaking them but always loving a freshy. On the opposite end Zered probably keeps his boards the longest.
If you ever meet Seamus, his name is pronounced "shaymus."

Camilla.
That photo of Schaefer sailing in the trash can is from Tampa Am 2003's Contest After-Party. That is still one of the craziest parties I've ever been to.
