Ignorant Ass Radio Rappers Say You Should Vote, So It Must Be The Smart Thing To Do
Posted by Rob on Sun, Nov 30, 2:02 PM
Some of the best ideas we've had were born several cans of sauce deep at some random bar in some random town or country. The Skatepark of Tampa Party Team was dreamed up over a lot of laughs and silly antics I think somewhere in Europe a couple years ago. Anyway, the Damn Am Awards idea kicked off the same way. After we woke up the next day, we asked some of our industry friends at The Skateboard Mag and Nike SB to join us and now it's on: January 22 at ASR. It's nothing super formal, just some recognition for everyone who's been along for the ride with us all year at all these Damn Am stops. We made up all kinds of silly awards like "Started Smoking Award" and "Needs Intervention Award." One of them is the Skatepark of Tampa.com's Reader's Choice Award. Cast your vote here:
Tape Guns A Blazin

Lako and I are back here in Innetech packing up the ASS (Asian Sweat Shop - online order packing) from this crazy sale weekend. One of the things that breaks up the monotony of stuffing boxes is the funny notes you leave on your orders. If you have nothing business to say, throw in a random comment. A yo momma joke, something dumb your girl does, an obscure fact, or any other interesting comment is appreciated and you might get an extra bonus in your box. Since your notes appear on the slip that prints out in the Shop when you submit an order, the Shop employees will also get a laugh. Thanks for the entertainment.

Keep It Gangster On Black Friday
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 28, 2:21 PM
In case the blaring note on the top of every single page on the site didn't alert you, we are currently having a sale. So what's the deal with the 80% thing? Yeah, it's your standard sales pitch where we make that number the biggest to get your attention, but there really is lots of stuff that's 80% off like these Zoom Air Abington shoes for $13. It's quite a hunt finding all the bargains, so I nerded out and made this top list of most discounted stuff. You can find the most discounted items by percentage or by dollar amount on the list. The Abington shoes are the biggest discount percent while the Scotty Conley Human Hair Sock is the biggest price discount at $300 off since socks are 30% off.

Putting together all the donated parts for Boards for Bro's takes some time but is much easier with a large crew running like an assembly line sweat shop. Check out some photos: Boards For Bros 2008 Setup.
It's $9 Beer Night
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 28, 9:56 AM
Last weekend we piled in the Clem-350 and took it down to the just the tip of the dangle state. I forced myself to take photos and Porpe wrote a story: MIA Clash of the Crews 2008 Presented by DC.
Death Greetings From Chile
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 26, 1:08 PM
I'm sharing some more of my email with you. Got one from this kid from Chile trying to get into Damn Am with some amusing language barrier issues. He likes the word "killer" and signed off with "answer me beast!" Huh? Check out his email and footage he sent: Death Greetings From Chile!
Being Away From America Is Always Good

I don't think I've ever seen Pat Stiener wear a shirt with a logo on it. He keeps it pretty low key. 48 Blocks just did an interview with him. Nice photo, Stalker Steve.

After School Modeling Pose Of The Year
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 20, 9:03 PM
I just read an interesting speculation on who Thrasher's Skater of the Year will be. Tomorrow morning at 9am (noon here), Thrasher is announcing it. I just checked their site and one of Danny Way's picks is Jereme Rogers? Wow, give him rapper of the year, too. Raise the roof.

Pocket Stenographer
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 20, 6:10 PM
Here are the minutes from yesterday's weekly SPoT Staff Meeting. We all sit in a circle like recovering alcoholics and make our points about things that need to be discussed about the week passed. Porpe says he did the Great American Teach In. He's hyped on his speech to 12-year-olds and how cool they think his job is. Boston says the employee bathrooms are filthy. Not the regular bathrooms everyone uses, the ones just for us. I agree. Please respect the pooper. Gonzo says parents are hyped on the fishbowl. One even asked where the margaritas are, according to Ternell. There are no margaritas. Kelly says we need an official rule book for the Snack Bar pool table after after a showdown with DMFP. Jacob wants everyone to clean up after themselves. I agree, especially in the pooper department. Schaefer wants you to turn the lights out. And finally, Clem says there's a mandatory voluntary Boards For Bro's assembly line for all employees to participate in so we can play Santa again. All I had for the meeting was straight boring bid'niss stuff.
Angel Points The Lens Better
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 19, 5:55 PM
Angel recently took a bunch of skate photos during construction. Check out his work: Rob Mentioned We Needed Some More Skate Photos on the Site. Looks good. Wish I could do that.
Drunk Speeches Coming

We are working with The Skateboard Mag that does the Year's Best Am feature every year. Both that and the Damn Am of the Year Awards are taking place at the same time at ASR on January 22, 2009. It's open to the public so see you there if you're in San Diego. Check the details:

As soon as the Harvest Jam was done, course demolition started. It's that time of year again. The ski jump is gone and everything else is on the way out also. Thanks to the help of all our Innetech employees back here, our ASS is tightly sealed now.
I Love Little Kids
Posted by Rob on Tue, Nov 18, 9:05 PM
I hope none of these kids get scarred by my silly banter. It's all in plain old good humor. Finally, photos from that one Contest we had like 60 hours ago: Harvest Jam 2008 Presented by Xing Tea.
Got Lube?
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 17, 8:32 AM
No email, no website, nothing but taking it in the ASS (Asian Sweat Shop - online order packing) for the next two days. Lako, Body, and I are up to our ears in boxes from the sale. It's more than we can handle so there's a chance your order may not ship until tomorrow if you placed one over the weekend. Thanks for shopping here. We are doing our best to get them all out on time.
Shoe Nerd Alert
Posted by Rob on Sun, Nov 16, 3:10 PM
You know all those kicks you see in the foot fetish photos? Those are piling up high in my place and now it's time to get rid of them. If you want 34 pairs of size 8.5 shoes starting at a buck, check this ebay auction out. There's no reserve. I just want to get them out of my place for whatever price. It's all or none. I have no time or interest in selling individual ones. I'm basically just taking out my trash.
Nosegrabbing Is The New Mongo

Check the All Ages Results Page for results from the Harvest Jam. This is my first weekend in Tampa since September so I'm going to enjoy it and put up all the photos on Monday.
I'm Old Enough For Dentures Anyway
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 14, 4:23 PM
About a month ago, I wrote in this column about how I'd love to entertain you all by telling the story of the angriest jock in skateboarding knocking me the hell out at the next skateboard shindig for opening my mouth too much about him. That was yet another post Clem convinced me to quickly delete. So far, I still have all my yellow teeth. Thanks, Clem! Anyway, our friend Jay from Sole Tech spilled the full beans on the incident I'm now choosing to ignore. Here's Jay's story: The Mike Vallely Incident at Vans Downtown Showdown 2008.
There Is No Houston Am
Posted by Rob on Fri, Nov 14, 9:28 AM
Yesterday I blew up everyone's inbox in my address book with information about recent and upcoming SPoTlight shindigs including Tampa Am and Make-A-Wish. Somehow I said Tampa Am was in Houston. Oops. It's not in Houston, it's in Tampa. Here are the full details on Tampa Am December 2008: Tampa Am December 2008 Weekend Schedule. Can we please ungrow up and get this rowdy at the After-Parties again?
Economy, Sales, Traffic, Erections - All Down
Posted by Rob on Thu, Nov 13, 10:09 AM
Every Wednesday at 5pm, all 23 people that work at SPoT gather in the Shop to meet and share points that need to be discussed with the whole group. I took some notes. Schaefer says on Sunday after this weekend's Harvest Jam, destruction of the street course will begin. The new one will be done before you chow down on turkey. Clem says Xing Tea and Sambazon will be giving out free refreshments all day during the Harvest Jam. We just found out that the Xing Tea Girl is a porn star and she will be here helping to distribute the sauce. I don't think she knows we know. I guess times are tough in the skin trade these days along with the rest of the economy. Check the comments in that photo for more info. The Harvest Jam After-Party is no longer at The Market in Ybor. It's at Crowbar now. See you there. Milk and cookies on me. Shop employee Christa says she organized the board racks yet again so don't mess them up, okay?
Biggest Sales Pitch Alert Ever
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 12, 12:18 PM
Got a shemped out shirt, a hole in your jeans, or bare foot right now? You're in luck. Clothes and shoes, plus a ton of other gear is on sale now through Sunday. If you already had something in your cart before the sale started, you have to remove it and re-add it for the correct price to show up. I don't have time to fix that bug right now. Thanks to everyone who emailed about it. Now, go shop.
Goombas Made Him Take Newspaper Photos
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 12, 12:02 PM
Way back in '02, Schaefer ran through the crowd naked with flesh colored women's underwear on, made some kid put panties with skid marks in his mouth for free skate stuff, and sat full blown nekkid spread eagle for the dunk tank at the 2002 Make-A-Wish Texas Skate Jam. I was still using a point and shoot back then so those photos are pretty terrible, not that ones today are any better. Anyway, I wasn't on the trip this year, but it sure seemed pretty tame compared to times past. Can we all ungrow up just a little? Coverage from the weekend is here: Porpe's story and Derewenko's photos. Stink shot some good street photos, but at the event, looks like Goombas got in his way. Clem also shot a bunch of chill shots. RIP Johnny Romano.
The Devil Is In The Details

Here's another full site traffic report for the last 30 days, including the most clicked on skaters, products, articles, and photos on the site. Are you down? I'm down. Traffic is down, too. Oh, well.
More Sharing Of My Email
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 10, 5:07 PM
I sent/replied to about 100 emails today. Standard stuff, but one of them I can't publish but just wanted to mention was an email from some random pissed woman stating,
"I wanted to inform you that recently there have been serious charges filed against XXXXX for Surreptitious Photography with the XXXXX Police Department. He has been videotaping young girls in the restroom and showers at his residence! This is a Class 5 Felony and hopefully justice will be served and he will go to prison for his perverse behavior."
Yikes. You can find that on the internet for free, you know. Not sure what she's asking me to do, but the skater in question is a ripping Am and hopefully that's not true. In a separate email, someone sent me one that had the word "stoked" in one paragraph three times. The name of their website had the word "stoke" in it also. So stoked, brah. It's another day in the sketchy skateboard industry. The Clem-350 is on it's way back from another Make-A-Wish Jam in Texas. Coverage of that is coming up tomorrow.
He Salutes Like That All The Time, Not Just On A Ship
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 10, 2:40 PM
Schaefer is currently on a battleship. We are having a skateboard shindig on it. Details coming soon.
Collaborations X Still So Hot Right Now

Barak, our President-Elect of design here at SPoT, has these Half Cab's coming in on November 15.
Mixing Bid'niss And Pleasure As Usual
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 10, 1:40 PM
Here's a bid'niss article about behind the scenes here at SPoT. In these times of economic crisis, I'm glad we are still provided with clean pooping grounds. Seriously, though. I don't think we would have had a decent chance of living past 1997 if Clem didn't join SPoT at that time. Check what he has to say through that hair thing on his face right here:
Can Someone Smash Another Toilet Like The Good Old Days?
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 10, 11:04 AM
Les Savy Fav and No Age are playing the SPoT 16-Year Anniversary Party at Czar on Saturday, December 6. Let's smash stuff, alright? See you there.
Kickflips Are Important
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 10, 9:15 AM
The results from the DC Ryan Smith Giveaway are in. Some interesting results of the survey: more of you would rather put your thumb in your butt than nut on a rail. 87% would rather go to school naked for a day than never kickflip again. 79% would rather have a small trick bag than bad style. An overwhelming 92% prefer dumb, skinny girls over smart, big girls. Given the choice of the Bro Bowl or skating flat, 38% choose flat, including me. Top five got a DC Ryan Smith Cruiser Deck. You have already been emailed.
Hoping For A New Downtown Spot

Who Dat?
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 05, 10:26 AM
If you're unsponsored or only shop sponsored, don't email me to get in Tampa Am. Just kidding. A little. I'm happy to check your footage. Just keep the roid rage jock rock out. It's harder to get into Tampa Am as a random, but if you're ripping, you can get a Damn Am spot where top 12 make it to Tampa Am December without having to fight your way in. PJ Castellano is probably the only unsponsored guy in Tampa Am this year. If you've got a swtich flip like this you might have a chance.
MENstruation
Posted by Rob on Wed, Nov 05, 10:15 AM
Last time I was in the back of the Clem-350 with Derewenko four years ago, I remember some serious tension between some grown ass men acting like, well, some grown ass bitchy women. The Clem-350 is again full of grown ass men including Derewenko on their way to Make-A-Wish where I am bowing out to skip an event for a change. Good luck everyone. I was nothing but a worthless pile there anyway. Thanks for doing one of my jobs, Derewenko. Toss a case for me.
Guess He's Over The Pink Shirts
Posted by Rob on Mon, Nov 03, 10:58 AM
Remember pink shirt guy? That's Sheckler's homie and it looks like they had a scuffle at some party Porpe was at. He took photos and Gonzo has a story: Gonzo's Red Bull Story.
